Yearbooks will be arriving late this year due to COVID-19. The plant had shutdowns and submission dates were late. We haven’t been given a delivery date for our yearbooks, we only know they will be late. Once we have them in hand and account for preorders, a message will go home indicating pickup instructions and availability of extras for purchase. There will be limited copies and they will be first come, first served once we physically have them in hand. Thanks for your support this year!

ATTENTION Daily Lunches- Lunch distribution in Burrillville will continue throughout distance learning.  Bag lunches are being offered at Callahan daily from 11:00-12:00.  Your child needs to be there to pick the lunch up.  This is being done in front of the school of WLC.  Please practice social distancing when coming to get lunches.

Burrillville Virtual/Distance Learning

Tuesday, May 26, 2020 Reteach/Refocus Day

Moving Forward…..As we begin to wind down our academic school year, our distance learning will begin to look somewhat different at the elementary level.  In response to the feedback that we have received from the family survey, we will be altering elementary school expectations.  Beginning on June 3rd, your child’s schedule may change slightly. This will include no homework, no exit tickets, and no additional assignments outside of their time online with their teachers. Students will still continue to go to their specials and do Lexia/Zearn and silently read in the afternoon. Please be aware that your child’s teacher will continue to be available for any questions or clarifications that your child may need.  This change allows us the flexibility to help students who need to meet with their teachers in small groups as necessary, or to get caught up on any work they may not have yet submitted. It will also give us the chance to incorporate some fun “end-of-year” activities for kids, like we usually do in the last weeks of school.

5th Grade Moving Up- The Calllahan 5th grade teachers are doing a virtual Moving Up day for their students. This will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 10:00AM.  We will be doing this live with our students and their families through Google meets. More information to follow.

Burrillville Virtual/Distance Learning

Dear Callahan Families,

As you are all aware of, Governor Raimondo extended distance learning through the end of the school year.  Unfortunately we will have many things that will be cancelled or done differently as we move into the end of our school year.  More information will be forthcoming. Please be aware that when your child is online and your child’s microphone is on the class can hear anything being said in the vicinity of the child on the computer.  This is even true when they have headphones on.  Unfortunately some of our students have heard some colorful language during teaching time online.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.   Please be aware if there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to reach out to me and also continue to email your teacher as well.  The teachers are always answering parent concerns.  We are in this together!!

Burrillville Virtual/Distance Learning

No School Friday, April 17, 2020 Teacher Professional Development

Dear Callahan Families,

Thank you Callahan Families for taking distance learning so serious.  While I know how hard we are all working to make this happen it does not go unnoticed the challenges that each family and educators face as we move further along with virtual learning. Please continue to emphasize to your children that this is school time.  If there is anything I can do to help please feel free to reach out to me. I will be distributing reimbursement checks this week for families of students in grades 4 & 5 that paid for Nature’s classroom.  I have sent those families a separate e-mail outlining the procedure for this. Please continue to email your teacher or me with any issues that may arise. We are in this together!!

Nature’s Classroom- Reimbursement checks and returned un-cashed checks will be handed out at Callahan this week.  When parents come to the school for the check please bring your own pen to sign that you received the check.  The checks were placed in envelopes by us practicing the guidelines set out by the state of RIDOH. Masks and gloves were worn. Please report to the front of the school with your own pen and ring the buzzer at the door. The check reimbursement will take place during these times:

Special teachers will continue to be live from 12-12:30 and available for help from 12:30-1:00 (right after the class in the same meet/zoom).

Virtual Spirit Week-The BHS Student council continues to come up with the week's theme! In order to participate, please check the weekly spirit week flyer (attached) and plan to dress for the day's theme or set aside time to do the activity. At some point during the day, take a photo of your child  (or if they can have them) in their attire or them completing the activity. Finally, email the photo to brissetted@bsd-ri.net. Photos will be shared virtually to show our community spirit and continue to remind us that we are all in this together!

No School Thursday, April 9, 2020 and Friday, April 10, 2020

Dear Callahan Families,

Distance Learning continues for the rest of April. We continue to be proud of how hard our students have worked and how serious they have taken this. I would like to also point out how hard parents and teachers are  working to handle distance learning. Please continue to emphasize to your children that this is school time and not vacation. There will be a last distribution of math packets for our grade 2 & 3 students. Parents of grade 2 & 3 students got a separate email instructing them how they will be distributed at the Burrillville High School on Monday April 6, 2020.  Please do not hesitate to email your teacher or me with any issues that may arise.  We are in this together!!

Specials-Some students have had issues with assignments and getting into Art, Music, PE/Health, and Library/tech.  Please contact the teacher directly for help on any assignments. Many parents are reaching back to their child’s homeroom teachers who might not have the information that the student needs.  Special teachers starting Monday will be live from 12-12:30 and available for help from 12:30-1:00 (right after the class in the same meet/zoom).

Virtual Spirit Week- With one week of distance learning under our belts, The BHS Student council came up with this week's theme!

ATTENTION Daily Lunches- There has been an adjustment to lunch distribution time in Burrillville.  Bag lunches are being offered at Callahan daily from 11:00-12:00 now.  Your child needs to be there to pick the lunch up.  This is being done in front of the school of WLC.
